Showrooms américains de la maison de textiles et tissus d’ameublement Maharam. Le design intérieur est signé par l’agence Fernlund + Logan Architects

Entreprise familiale vieille de 100 ans, Maharam fait ses débuts dans la fabrication de tissus destinés au monde du théâtre. Dans les années 1960, elle devient pionnière en commercialisant des textiles techniques innovants pour des applications plus commerciales. Aujourd’hui, l’entreprise demeure parmi les leaders de son secteur, et s’affiche lors de collaboration remarquée, telle que celle établie avec la maison danoise Kvadrat, qui édite, entre autres, les « Clouds » des frères Bouroullec.

Maharam, New York 2001

« The top two floors of a Park Avenue South office building are the administrative and executive offices, as well as design studio, of a textile company. Low partition walls for private offices and meeting rooms, combined with pod-like work stations, were organized along a corner with arched windows. Long tables lit by large central skylights define the design studio. A palette of plywood, white laminate, and gray felt serve as the background for a collection of chairs displayed as sculpture. »

Maharam, St. Louis 2002

« A single-story building on a commercial street was renovated into a showroom and office. A large glass storefront, recessed from a limestone-clad facade, was created to relate to adjacent buildings while serving as a showcase for the company. Visible from the street, the showroom is comprised of a seating area and fabric display on one wall. The interior space is illuminated and partitioned by translucent glass volumes lit by skylights. A reception console, followed by a row of wall-mounted desks, makes up the office area. »

Maharam, Cincinnati 2003

« A storefront in a landmark building in downtown Cincinnati was converted into a showroom and office. With large windows to both the street and a public lobby, showroom and office were organized to form an integrated display. Cabinets and desks are mounted on a wall inset with undulating acoustic wall panels. Fabrics are displayed on opposing walls, while an illuminated platform serves to exhibit upholstered stools. »

« A cluttered product showroom in the Merchandise Mart was renovated to reveal natural light and expose the building’s structural elements. The gallery space created provides a neutral background for changing product installations for an annual trade fair. All the furniture and showroom display elements were made removable. »

Maharam, Atlanta, 2006

« A former single story paint factory with an exposed 25′ high wood ceiling and continuous skylights was converted into a showroom and offices for a textile company. A director’s office and conference room are partitioned off with glass walls while a service core is wrapped with a long storage wall treated as furniture. Composed of regularly spaced repetitive stacked U-shaped elements, the interior of the wall serves as fabric sample storage compartments, while the exterior functions as screening element from the serviceareas. The is project received a silver rating from the « Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design » (LEED) green building rating system. »

Maharam / D&D Building, NYC

« In the Decorator and Design Building located on the upper East Side of Manhattan, a showroom for a fabric company offers a new approach to displaying and viewing fabrics. An L-shaped space divided into a public and private zones, is spatially unified by a continuous band of windows, a concrete ceiling and new seamless synthetic resin flooring. Large steel
tables hold wood trays containing a rotating collection of fabrics. Unlike conventional display racks, here the user is encouraged to interact with the product samples. A perimeter counter along the windows give the visitor a place to sit and work. The office area is furnished with custom wood cabinets combined with corian topped desks. »
