En octobre dernier, pendant la Tokyo Designers Week 2010, Suzanne Oxenaar, directeur artistique de l’hôtel LLOYD & Cultural Embassy à Amsterdam, a organisé une étonnante exposition à Tokyo pour célébrer l’évènement ‘Netherlands in Japan 2008-2009’ : 400 ans de relations commerciales et culturelles entre les Pays-Bas et le Japon.
Pendant un mois, l’exposition intitulée LLOVE a permis aux visiteurs de découvrir un espace artistique, à la fois galerie d’art et hôtel éphémère.

Sur le thème de « still in llove » (toujours amoureux), 8 chambres doubles et 6 chambres simples ont été réinventées par huit artistes et designers originaires des Pays-Bas et du Japon. Sur réservation, les visteurs avaient la possibilité de passer une nuit dans une des chambres créée pour l’occasion. Au rez-de-chaussée, un café ouvert au public exposait aussi les œuvres et les installations des designers.

About : LLOVE is an exhibition consisting of guest rooms created by Dutch and Japanese designers to celebrate 400 years of trade and cultural relations ‘Netherlands in Japan 2008-2009’. The theme is ‘Still in Llove’.
LLOVE is not just an exhibition which you can visit, but you can actually book an overnight stay. LLOVE offers the unique experience of spending a night in an artistic space which has been created specifically for this event by designers and architects. LLOVE’s main characteristic is that guests can spend their time at LLOVE according to their mood of the moment; a unique type of hotel in Japan, with a limited amount of service. A café is included and all ingredients of the served food are from Nara. Nara, a region famous for its traditional Japanese culture, celebrates its 1300th anniversary as Japan’s first full-fledged capital, Nara Heijokyo.
The LLOVE concept was created by Suzanne Oxenaar, Artistic Director of the LLOYD HOTEL & Cultural Embassy in Amsterdam. Over 50 designers have contributed to the Lloyd Hotel. Coinciding with DESIGNTIDE TOKYO, LLOVE will present Dutch design in a new way. What’s more, the access from the main venue of DESIGNTIDE is perfect, LLOVE is sure to become a meeting space for international designers.
