« Landscarpet »
This carpet shows the landscape of Noord-Brabant (province in the south of the Netherlands).

« Series of plates : View on Bergeijk »
To stimulate the memory of elderly people, 33 plates are designed for a senior citizen’s home in Bergeijk. A city plan (date 1927) of the municipality of Bergeijk is transferred to the dinner plates.

At special occasions the plates will be taken of the wall to be used for diner. Beside the plates there are napkins designed, which translate the topographical structure of fields after exploitation. Together they tell a historical story of this location and it’s locals.

Napkin and tablecloth « Kavelgoed »
4 Patterns represent the structure of the typical landscape in Noord-Brabant.

« Strijp S plate »
Strijp S, a former industrial area in Eindhoven (The Netherlands), is at this moment in development. A place with a great history and a promising future. Who’s familiar towards it, can use this scale to come up with knowledge and stories about Strijp S.

About : Maaike Bertens is a young designer, who graduated in 2006 from the department Public Space, Design Academy Eindhoven. The focus of the department was site specific design and it is mainly the social and geographical aspects of these locations that have become fundamental to her design.
Her work is graphic and monumental with great consideration for not only the decorative but also the functional. With emphasis on colour, material and structure, she strives for a harmony in between the experience of the design and its location.
« Every situation has its own character and therefore requires a specific approach ».
As a designer she works on different local projects (installations, interiors) and products. Upon request a number of the products can be ordered. These products are based on her fascination of landscape from a bird’s-eye-view. Landscape wool tapestry, topographic maps applied to a series of plates, tablecloths and napkins. These are reproducible concepts, unique because they can be applied to any desired area.

Tellement « ouvert ».
