En 2009, le trio hollandais composé des designers Stijn van der Vleuten et Marcia Nolte, et de l’artiste Bob Waardenburg, fonde WE MAKE CARPETS.
Fascinés par le nombre infini de matériaux disponibles aujourd’hui sur le marché, ils détournent l’art du tissage traditionnel et imaginent des tapis contemporains éphémères. Une fois le matériau choisi collégialement, ils s’aventurent, sans plan ni croquis, à assembler les matières jusqu’à l’apparition d’un tapis. Et c’est étonnant !
About : ‘we make carpets’ made its first carpet (forest carpet) during the exhibition ‘instant nature’ on the dutch design week 2009. ‘forest carpet’ initiated the start of a new project: we make carpets. Concentrating on another use of everyday products ‘we make carpets’ creates temporary contemporary carpets.
The instant way of working is what connected the designers Stijn van der Vleuten and Marcia Nolte and visual artist Bob Waardenburg. Without a sketch or plan (except for the chosen material) they start working on the carpet, resulting in a concentrated process of laying the materials one by one until the finished carpet appears.
Fascinated by the great amount of different materials available on the market today, the possibilities for ‘we make carpets’ seem endless. The shape of the chosen materials dictates the pattern of the carpet. The modern materials together with traditional carpet symetry shape the carpets.

Certains plus comestibles que d’autres, et y en a même des confortables. Presque.
Le plus remarquable, si l’on peut dire, c’est le côté conformiste, voire convenu des dessins, eux-mêmes, comparables à des compositions d’école primaire, en opposition totale avec l’incongruité affirmée au niveau « élémentaire ». L’archétype corseté d’un côté, la liberté de l’autre.
