L’installation FABRICATED HARVEST est le fruit d’une collaboration entre les designers américains John Adams et Ricki Dwyer. Combinant création numérique sur logiciels informatiques et art de la vannerie traditionnelle, ils ont assemblé 748 lamelles en bois découpées au laser et « tissé » des motifs hexagonaux pour former un grand panier tressé de fibres végétales.
Construite dans l’esprit du « Sankofa », un mot issu du language akan (une tribu du Ghana) qui signifie «revenir en arrière et aller chercher », l’installation incarne le besoin de comprendre et de s’approprier le savoir du passé afin d’envisager l’avenir.
À propos : Working collaboratively with Ricki Dwyer, we combined digital fabrication and traditional basket weaving. Built in the spirit of »Sankofa », an Akan word meaning « go back and fetch it ». It embodies the need to understand your past so that you are prepared to step into the future. Using Rhino 3D and Grasshopper, a script was written to parametrically divide an ellipsoid surface into a hexagonal pattern. The sections of the 748 wooden hexagons, we all cut using a 18×32 laser cutter.
